Autumn kicks off a time of beauty in the Northeast Kingdom where people travel from all around to see leaves changing color like painted fire. This is also a time for Vermonters and especially Kingdomers to strut our stuff. The first few weeks of Fall bring several charming Fall Festivals and the kick-off event was the Burke Fall Festival in East, Burke Vermont. The Burke Festival ,like many others, have a potpourri of food, crafts, music, animals, yard sales and activities for children. East Burke already offers a charming atmosphere and add something like the Burke Fall Festival too it and you have yourself a great fall day event.

Have GPS? Love Adventure? Then geocaching could be for you. What is geocaching you ask? It is hide-and-seek treasure hunting and it is happening right here in the Northeast Kingdom. How it works: Someone stashes a cache (pronounced cash) and pinpoints its whereabouts with GPS and uploads the information to geocaching.com. Adventurers use geocaching.com and GPS to find these hidden treasures. Caches can be all kinds of things from time capsules, random objects, and even structured games. The only rule of geocaching is if you take something from a stash you have to put something in.

When you think “Vermont”, you might think about sleepy Sunday mornings at a local bed & breakfast, maple syrup, or the Breakfast Skillet at the Miss Lydonville Diner- but anyone that has visited the Northeast Kingdom (or at least seen pictures) visualizes a rugged outdoor terrain that is both beautiful and imposing. The rambling hills call to you, beckoning you to commune with nature and to find yourself, but you’re no Lewis & Clarke, and like many tourists you may have only enjoyed the view from the scenic overlooks off of I-91. Take off your chinos, switch off your iPhone, and strap on a bike helmet, enjoying the Northeast Kingdom just got a whole lot easier- it’s time to hit
